Creating wallpapers for the OS - Sat, Mar 26, 2022
A look at one of the wallpapers of the operating system
Operating Systems have always been at the core of my life since the day I started using computers, from age 4 when my dad bought me a desktop from HCL. Windows 98 was my first operating system, and it was magic.
Wallpapers have always played a subtle and nostalgic role in my life. After Windows 98, my next operating system was Windows XP. People always talk about the “Bliss” wallpaper of Windows XP, and only a few talk about the other wallpapers included in that OS.
There was a wallpaper in Windows XP called “Red moon desert”. I used to like it, although I don’t think I’ve used it as much as “Bliss”.
I wanted to create something like that for the OS. I can’t go to Rajasthan at this point, so I made a computer-generated one. For the other wallpapers, I plan to visit places in India and the US in the coming years to capture photographs to use as wallpapers for the operating system and create some computer-generated ones like this:
Fun fact: most of the wallpapers that came with Windows XP were from Corbis, a stock photo company founded by Bill Gates.
